RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

Casey and others may chime in that they have no such limitation on their EXISTING contract, but that may only be true because the limitations came into existence after the start of their contract date. Just for the record, I don't know whether or not there is a usage limitation in my existing contract. Further, I don't know whether or not ATT is content to allow tethering, perhaps at some level, under their Unlimited Media Net service, or simply hasn't recognized that I do it. I do accept, cynically, that "unlimited" does not necessarily mean unlimited.

RE: CELL PHONE INTERNET ACCESS

I have two phones on an ATT Family Plan, a Motorola V3xx and an LG Shine. Each of them has a $20/month subscription for "Media Max 200 Bundle", which consists of unlimited Internet Media Net service plus 200 text messages per month. Both phones are tethered to their respective PC's. One was used as its PC's only Internet access for several months until recently. The other is used as a periodic backup to a sometimes unreliable ISP connection, and for access when traveling. The maximum usage of either of these hasn't exceeded 2 gigs in a month, so I can't know whether ATT would catch them at 5 gigs, but they surely haven't caught either one in over a year of moderate usage. It's fairly clear that the Media Net service is only intended for use with the phone's internal browser, but ATT's web site still carries an old Cingular instruction sheet for setting up the tether connection. Where 3G service is available, the connection appears to operate at 3G speed.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Thank you. I'm sorry to have spoken inappropriately. I didn't realize Richard was under constraint to make an immediate decision. I'll check back in a couple of months to see what decision he made.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I too have been afraid to speak against the force to buy a ready-made statue which can only be a poor likeness of our fine Old Fella. Knowing that at least some of you have reservations too, makes me bolder. The best likenesses and most of our memories of Old Fella come from the the fine photographs Richard and Sue have taken. A few days ago one of you -- I can't locate the post just now -- wrote of a photo that had been made part of her parents' grave marker, quite some years ago. I've seen these done in a way that seems to be quite permanent. I would hope that one of Richard's photos could be reproduced and inlaid in a stone base, showing Old Fella with his loving eyes, and could perhaps even leave some money left over to benefit a few other Fellas looking for homes.

Money is often the scapegoat when it's really our emotional bank account that's gotten drained. Let's hope the vet can give Baxter some help and all of you some time to heal.

I vote every day and wonder can you vote more than once the same day, i did it anyway..... You can, but if you look closely, you'll probably find a note saying that you've already voted today and the last one didn't count. Their primary control seems to be recording the IP address of the voting computer. So, if you had access to another computer not on the same network... Better to just enlist a friend to vote every day, too.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. I just voted, wish I had a way to remember to do it every day. Becky On the left hand side of their home Web page, directly opposite the "purple box", is a clickable item "Daily Click Reminders". It will remind you to click for the food bowl, though not to vote for the rescue group.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

For the little boy who has to endure the rabies shots - maybe a kind person (such as Richard who is a minister) could persuade the so-called owner to admit whether the dogs had rabies shots or not, maybe if he was told "We don't want your dogs, just copies of their shot records..." Don't you think the present silence tells the story? If the owner were responsible enough to have the dogs' vaccinations up to date, wouldn't he have produced the records, even if anonymously? When there's no effective enforcement of animal regulations, there will be lots of violators. My exurban county requires licensing of dogs and cats, at nominal fees. One year when I tried to buy licenses for my dog and cat, I got blank stares. I was finally sent licenses No. 2 and 3. I always wondered who No. 1 was.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Richard, are you sure you really need to handle it? My inclination would be to let them work it out between themselves, as long as they can do it without bloodshed. It seems like dogs that live together usually come to terms with one another pretty quickly.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I'm told there is medication available that can help with Charlie's leakage problem. You might want to ask the vet about it when you take him for examination of the shoulder. My younger but grown Lab mix had a similar problem, but only when she slept in my bed. After a few months of being required to sleep outside the bedroom door, she got over it, and I once again share the bed.

Congratulations, Richard, on being adopted by an obviously very smart dog. He knows a good home when he smells one.

RE: CCC questiom

In addition to adding to the weight of the RV, taking it closer to its GVWR and thus reducing any existing CCC, the hitch mounted cargo carrier has another effect. It adds -more- than its own weight to the rear axle -- the excess is weight it takes off the front axle. Think of a seesaw pivoted at the rear axle. If you know the loaded carrier weight, the hitch to rear axle distance, and the wheelbase (distance between the two axles) you can calculate how much weight it adds to the rear axle. Or, just get the axles weighed, individually, with everything loaded. For many Class C RV's, the rear axle is very near its GAWR, Gross Axle Weight Rating, when they leave the factory. They can't properly handle much additional load.

RE: FAULTY ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT

Your message will be easier to read, and readers won't think you're SHOUTING, if you don't type in ALL CAPS. I suppose it's possible there is an outlet upstream of the GFI, though it's hard to reckon it would have gotten damaged by the overload. You should be able to find out -- does it have power with the kitchen / GFI circuit breaker on? If so, does it have power with that breaker off? If powered with breaker on, but no power with breaker off, look for fault at that point and repair it. If powered in both cases, look elsewhere for the fault.

RE: Rv Seperated Tire need help:

Without offering it as a recommendation, here is one listing that Google turned up -- Sears Goodyear Workhorse Rib. $138.66 If your tire has visible tread separation, it won't have any tread for very long. Losing a steer tire at highway speed is not fun.

RE: Online parts

RV Stuff USA.com appears to be a listing service for a large number of RV related suppliers. There's no reason not to think that most if not all their listings are for reputable companies, but you'd have to judge the one you're interested in on its own merits. PPL Motorhomes that GSF recommends is a company I know well, as a large RV consignment dealer, service shop, and parts store. If they have what you want at a reasonable price, you can feel safe in buying from them.

RE: Antenna Booster

The antenna booster (amplifier) is built into the head of the batwing. you might check the coax connections there and in the coach. In particular, be sure the center wire is straight and goes into the hole in the center of the female connector. Did they prove it was working after the replacement?

No reason not to. Firefox 3 is a nice app. I've used it on dial-up and on my tethered AT&T cell phone.

RE: 30 to 50 AMP Adapter

But the very first thing the power cord comes to is... An automatic transfer switch, rated at 30 amps.. And the very next thing is.. Another 30 amp breaker That WILL trip Note that he says he can run both AC's from his generator. It encounters the same 30 amp breaker you refer to above. This tells me that if he can get 30 amps at or close to 120 VAC he will be able to run them, whatever its source. His problem is being produced by low voltage and/or lack of a working start delay switch, not by insufficient current.

RE: Inverter

The simplest solution for powering Li-ion battery chargers, laptop power supplies, and small TV's is a Radio Shack or similar Modified Sine Wave inverter plugged into a 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet. These can give you up to about 75 watts of 120 volt power, of a quality that is acceptable to most such devices. The more expensive Pure Sine Wave inverters produce the "clean" AC power some devices need. They, and larger MSW inverters, are best hard wired with proper sized cables close to your coach batteries, then connected either to dedicated 120 volt outlets or switched into one or more existing 120 volt circuits. A search on this forum will turn up lots of discussion of such units and their installation.
